gallery intern position

Latitude 53 is a not-for-profit contemporary art centre and registered charity located in Edmonton, Alberta. Operating since 1973, we are committed to supporting artists, curators and writers in a meaningful way through commissioning new work, presenting ambitious new projects, and disseminating work beyond the gallery walls.

JOB DESCRIPTION


Latitude 53 seeks to hire a recent graduate as a Gallery Intern who will be immersed in the organizational culture and work with the small team at the gallery to learn the fundamental arts administrative skills that serve as the foundation of a career in arts and culture. Through a series of modules, the Gallery Intern will gain experience in gallery administration, fundraising and events, membership and volunteers, communications and marketing, and programming.

QUALIFICATIONS


The ideal candidate will be driven and self-motivated with a passion for contemporary art. They should have strong oral and written communication skills, and experience with Mac computer systems and office programs, including spreadsheets, word processing, and email, is useful. This position will require working in teams, as well as independently, in an open concept office environment. Organizational skills, innovative approaches to problem solving, and the ability to self-direct are an assets.

POSITION


This position is a 26-week position beginning September 3, 2025, with an hourly wage of $22/hr at 30 hours/week. This position is funded in part through the Young Canada Works at Building Careers in Heritage program. All applicants must be registered in the YCW candidate pool and meet the current YCW-BCH eligibility criteria, including:
-not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with the program
-be a college or university graduate
-be between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
