Welcome to Alcove.
Beginning in 2020, Latitude 53, Mitchell Art Gallery, Ociciwan Contemporary Art Collective and SNAP Gallery worked together to develop a digital artist database and art professionals network to make the studio work of Edmonton and Northern Alberta artists accessible locally and visible nationally.
Since the beginning of COVID-19, we have been thinking through how we can address the challenge of isolation of Edmonton’s visual arts community, in both this particular time and outside of the current pandemic, and create new models of working together.
Using Alcove, artists can regularly update in progress or completed projects they want to share with the arts community, and this will be searchable for registered art community members (writers, curators, artists, arts professionals).
Think of this as sharing the things you are working on–things that are not complete or may not yet be ready for a website but that you would share in a studio visit or conversation.
This is the first phase of a long-term project, and we will continue to develop the database functionality and use. We will be using Alcove to conduct program research for our own institutions, as well as send out invites to curators and writers across the country to connect. We will also be using Alcove to continue to select artists featured on Art From Here.
Instructions to navigate the database can be found here.
