Youth Summer Employment Opportunities
This summer, Latitude 53 is looking for enthusiastic individuals to fill several temporary youth positions. To be eligible, youth must:
be between 18 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
The successful candidates should have an interest in pursuing a career in contemporary art and should be studying towards, or have studied, a degree in visual art, art history, curatorial studies, cultural studies, media studies or a related field.

Salary: $17.00/hr at 30 hours a week for 8 weeks

Latitude 53 is a non-for-profit artist-run centre and registered charity established in 1973. Founded on the values of experimentation, collaboration, critical engagement, artist-centredness, diversity, sustainability and risk-taking, Latitude 53 is dedicated to providing a non-coercive environment to assure the freedom of the artist, and give the public access to new art forms. Diversity and inclusion are promoted throughout the organization at every level, and most importantly through staffing and programming, to ensure LGBTQ2S+, Indigenous and POC voices are heard. Free and open to the public, Latitude 53 occupies a barrier-free and gender-neutral space creating access to exhibitions, events and programming that creates sites for the intersection of contemporary art and ideas in Alberta.
Working directly with Latitude 53’s Program Coordinator, and alongside core staff including the Executive Director and Engagement Coordinator, the Program Assistant will assist with summer exhibition programming, including exhibitions, events, publications, and the curator in residence program.
Specific tasks will include planning and logistics for exhibitions and related events, including artist talks, performances and workshops; project coordination for artist catalogues, editions and publications; and supporting curatorial research and logistics for the curator in residence.
Working directly with Latitude 53’s Engagement Coordinator, and alongside core staff including the Executive Director and Program Coordinator, the Engagement Assistant will assist in engaging with members and volunteers throughout the summer period, to deepen and increase involvement, as well as planning and executing outreach events.
Specific tasks will include identifying and contacting lapsed members and potential new members, tracking new memberships using Latitude 53’s database, contacting and scheduling volunteers for events, orientating new volunteers, assisting in the development of a volunteer recognition system, planning and executing ‘On the Patio’ series of summer events, including film screenings, talks and Latitude 53’s Art Bingo.
Working directly with Latitude 53’s Executive Director, and alongside core staff including the Program Coordinator and Engagement Coordinator, the Communication Assistant youth will establish and implement a communications plan for the summer exhibition programming, and gallery events.
Specific tasks will include creating a communications plan for press communications, newsletter communications and social media, including style and frequency of communications, target audience and measurable outcomes, and the implementation of this plan. The Communication Assistant will manage website updates, respond to press inquiries, submit exhibitions listings and produce e-newsletters.
