The curatorial theme for Visualeyez 2002 will be an exploration of the dichotomy between public and private space and the body as a site for opposition.

Artists will be exploring such aspects of this theme as the branding of the individual, the body in the public and private domains, and the reappropriation of the personal as political. Artists will be exploring the curatorial theme through interventionist strategies, and as such, all performances will take place in public spaces. There will be no ticketing of events, and all activities associated with Visualeyez will be free.

Visualeyez was developed by Latitude 53 Society of Artists to create opportunities for artists and audiences to experience and ineract with an array of performance artists and approaches to interdisciplinary and time-based art. This interdisciplinary, trans-media, paradigm-busting event focuses upon performance and time-based art.

Founded and curated by Todd Janes, Visualeyez is committed to excellence in fulfilling its mission to develop and showcase challenging and enlightening performance art from Canada and around the world. Visualeyez is an event where artists and cultural producershave the opportunity to research and develop artistic projects. Visualeyez makes room for experimentation similar to a residency. The hope is that Visualeyez will grow to serve as an international forum for performance artists, annually presenting hundreds of performances, workshops, lectures, educational seminars and special events featuring the work of acclaimed and emerging performance artists.
